Job Title: Electronic HW Designer
Purpose of the job: Develop hardware electronic boards or modules. Sustaining the electronic equipment on trains during the life cycle.
Organisation reporting:
Direct report: Electronic HW/FW Design Manager
Functional report: Not foreseen
Network & Links:
Internal: System Engineer; Electronic Hardware Architect/Designer; Firmware/Software Architect/Designer; Mechanical Engineer/Designer; RAMS Engineer; Validation Engineer; PrEM; Industrial Engineer; Manufacturing Technician; Quality Manager; Buyer.
External: Electronic manufacturing and suppliers
Responsibilities:
Perform development of electronic HW boards and equipment;
Perform the detailed specification and design of the HW modules, describing technical choices and verifying, by analysis (computations, models, simulation or mock-up), the compliance to input requirements;
Define the mechanical solution and the mechanical parts, working together with Mechanical Designer;
Define the electrical schematic of the boards, realizing a project in Mentor Expedition;
Define the Bill Of Materials (EBOM), preferably using components in PPL (Preferred Part List). If it is not possible, provide all the indications to the Coding Team for the insertion of the new component code in the PLM system, including creation of the symbols in the Mentor environment;
Check and validate, for the components used in the design, the F&S (Fire & Smoke) and Ecodesign constraints (EN45545, REACH);
Manage the Technical Specification and follow-up for externalized development (COS Component On Specification);
Evaluate the thermal performances and define the better solution for the heat dissipation;
Evaluate the reliability performances, assuring the requirements (especially when associated with safety aspects) and providing an estimation of MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) by a calculation compliance to standards (MIL-HDBK 217F, IEC62380, IEC61709);
Define the placement and routing constraints for electronic boards, to provide to the PCB Layout Designer;
Follow the realization of the PCB design (Mentor CAD); This activity can be under the responsibility of another HW designer, specialized in CAD.
Define the interfaces of the programmable components (FPGA, CPLD);
Design and implement the VHDL code for programmable components – or specify the functionalities to be developed by the FW designer;
Ensure that the design can be manufactured (compliance to DFM – Design For Manufacturing – rules), tested and repaired, working together with industrialization teams;
Provide the specification for Minimum Requirements for Routine Test and check the correct implementation in Routine Test Procedure and Report;
Follow the realization of the prototypes and check them;
Participate in the Design Reviews;
Design and implement the FW/SW necessary for HW component tests – or specify the software to be developed by the FW/SW designer;
Specify, design, prepare and perform HW components and work products verifications (including tests);
Put the hardware product under configuration management, according to Configuration Management Plan;
Support the HW/HW and HW/FW integration, together with the HW Architect and FW Designer;
Support the HW Validation of the product and Type Tests;
Support the Industrialization and Production Teams during manufacturing ramp-up;
Sustain the HW during the life cycle, particularly in terms of obsolescence detection and solution;
Remain informed of the evolution of technologies through techno watch;
Contribute to standardization by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions;
Apply processes and standards (EN50155, EN50467);
Contribute to continuous improvement (RoE: Return on Experience, Failure and NFF – Not Fault Found – analysis, process, ...);
Ensure reporting of activities to the HW Architect and PrEM.
Mandatory:
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in development of HW Electronic boards, equipment and systems in the railway domain.
Experience in RAMS design
Experience in product development having functional safety requirements (EN50126, EN50129,...)
Experience in product development having cyber security requirements
Experience in product development having high availability requirements
Experience in product development having real-time requirements
Experience in FPGA and FW/SW development
Ability to work transversally with Engineering teams
Ability to use electronic instruments for measures and signal analysis
Ability to use SW tools for electronic design/validation (e.g. Mentor Xpedition, Pspice and ModelSim Simulator, RAM Commander, ...)
Practical skill in electronics (soldering, debug of electronic boards, building circuit for test support, ...)
Design for Quality life cycle
