We are seeking a talented, collaborative, high-energy engineering professional with extensive technical expertise and a passion for automating infrastructure and deployment processes to help build, test, and release the next generation of our cloud-based Expert Solutions. The LR/DXG IPM Operational Engineering team provides the Infrastructure, Automation and Delivery (IAD) framework and services which underpin the technology critical to Wolters Kluwer and our Expert Solutions.
As a Lead Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of the IAD framework as well as working with Wolters Kluwer Product Teams to successfully implement and bring learnings through our continuous development. You will work closely with our development and operations teams to ensure that our services and solutions are delivered efficiently and with the highest quality. Additionally, you will mentor and lead a team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning while evangelizing the IAD Framework.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and automate the creation of Cloud Infrastructure in Azure & AWS using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
- Provide leadership, experience, and mentoring on Infrastructure as Code automation across engineering and the broader organization.
- Transform towards container and serverless compute, such as AKS, EKS, Docker, and Azure Functions.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and orchestrations across multiple environments.
- Support the adoption of Cloud Native solutions as appropriate.
- Build effective Observability of managed solutions, including troubleshooting issues.
- Ensure infrastructure, automation, monitoring, and CI/CD solutions align with organizational DevOps and Security patterns.
- Mentor and manage a team of DevOps engineers, fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
- Explore new technologies, development patterns, and evaluate pilots/POC.
- Contribute to architecture and engineering standards.
On a rotating basis, you will work as an embedded resource within existing operational teams to:
- Deploy and maintain critical applications.
- Design new systems and modernize existing applications.
- Identify areas for engineering improvements and propose strategies.
- Resolve production incidents and conduct root cause analysis.
- Share knowledge on IAD best practices and engineering tools.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities.
Qualifications: Hold at least two Azure &/or AWS Certifications.
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of software-related experience, including Site Reliability, DevOps, or Release Engineering, with backend services, middleware, or data systems.
- Strong background in software development with languages such as Python, Ruby, or Java.
- Recent experience with Cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS).
- Proficient in Shell Scripting Languages (PowerShell & Bash).
- Understanding of core AWS and Azure services.
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or Travis CI.
- Experience leading engineering teams.
- Effective communication of complex technical projects.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with DevOps transformation and building platforms for Observability.
- Experience with diagnostic tools and scripting automation for Windows and Linux.
Preferred: Experience maintaining and deploying highly available, fault-tolerant cloud-native systems at scale using Infrastructure as Code automation.
