CNH Industrial is a global capital goods company specializing in equipment and services for Agriculture and Construction. The Company operates commercially through its brand portfolio which includes Case IH, New Holland Agriculture, Steyr, CASE and New Holland Construction Equipment.
The Plant Quality Engineer is responsible for all aspects of product conformity at Sampierana Plants. The PQE reports to the Quality Operations Manager and leads all product quality related issues within their respective area. With unquestioned integrity and strength of conviction, the PQE responds to manufacturing quality issues and manages product changes. They will build effective relationships with both Salaried and Hourly, Assembly Plant and Corporate, to lead projects, validate product changes, provide technical expertise, and improve outgoing quality that will exceed the customers’ expectations. Through the usage of advanced problem solving and kaizen methodology, the PQE leads and support all continuous quality improvement initiatives by working collaboratively within cross-functional manufacturing teams and facilitates consensus from the main stakeholders.
Principle Relationships
- Daily Operational Production meetings with Quality Operation Manager to deal with quality issues / production
- Weekly meetings with Central Manufacturing Quality, to monitor the achievement of site quality objectives
- Weekly meeting with Current Product Management team (Product Quality, AMS, Product Support, Engineering, Manufacturing, ecc) to discuss about field issues
Operational Context
Plant Quality Engineer:
- The holder of this function must contribute to improving the quality level of Sampierana Products in the context of ever more ambitious quality objectives.
- The position requires great responsiveness to meet quality and production requirements.
- Autonomous but not independent in the decision to propose modifications in the product or the process to guarantee the quality of the units produced
- Technical support during yard holds, due to non-compliant vehicles that could lead to customer compliants or to recall campaigns.
- Technical support to avoid increasing outstanding rework area (issues on rework costs and customer delivery time).
- Represent Sampierana during the meetings with suppliers.
Deliverables
Plant Quality Engineer:
- Represent “Voice of the Customer” within the Sampierana Plants
- Support external quality Key Performance Indicators (KPI) management for achieving targets, driving improvement/corrective actions and escalation
- Review warranty claims and DAR/PDI Reports daily, maintain issue stratification
- Resolution of systemic/chronic or major quality issues (Top Warranty, Recalls, CPM issues)
- Lead improvement activities in vehicle quality by addressing nonconformity to product quality targets
- Support Corporate Quality objectives/deliverables and communicate requirements to all groups involved to ensure goals are achieved.
- Collaborate and lead internal and external resources in order to achieve project/program timings.
- Lead teams to identify issues/risks associated with product designs, processes and applications by utilizing FMEA’s and other risk assessment tools.
- Collaborate with Process Quality, , PPS, Process Engineers to ensure that control plans are implemented and maintained (i.e. Driven by Standards, Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans requirements, AM/PM Schedules, measurement/visibility)
- Partner with Process Quality team to properly map issues/defects within PFS/MCV to ensure vehicles with defects will not escape the plant and defects are identified, measured (trends) and issues are attacked.
- Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification and solutions of manufacturing constraints.
- Empowered to escalate product related issues including stopping the line and executing yard holds where needed.
- Perform critical Yard Hold activities to ensure vehicle quality, mitigation of risks and prompt release of units
Principle Activities
Advancing Customer Quality
- Analyze parts returned from field incidents (warranty claims, country incident reports).
- Propose and implement, with the plant and supplier, the ICA (Interim Containment Action) within the timeframe.
- Document problem solving and define the action plan to eradicate root causes.
- Ensure effectiveness of actions implemented (clean point follow up) and inform all the counterparts concerned.
- Provide technical assistance and participate in crisis meetings.
- Support convergence of quality KPI (XPDI – 1MIS - 3MIS).
Ensure the landing of Serial Life Windows & evolutions/events Product including cost savings
- Prepare for industrialization from Quality side.
- Issue derogations for parts considered not full PPAP approved but saleable.
- Monitoring the assembly of PRS to Batch Method.
- Problem solving: Identify the root cause, propose containment and definitive solutions, BP implementation follow up, and inform all counterparts concerned.
- Support the modernization (including SW) standard. Quality assessment of parts during pre-production phases.
Support the plant (on his/her perimeter) in the safety of production
- Analyze the DAR results: Understand the defects and confirm its attribution
- Problem solving: Identify the root cause, propose immediate protective measures and definitive solutions (together with supplier and manufacturing team), Best Pratices implementation follow up, and inform all counterparts concerned.
- Propose design evolutions to ENG Team for the design issues
- Participate in local and cross-cutting crisis meetings.
- Hand over of the quality responsibility from launch project and serial life.
Be the guarantor of the robustness of the plant monitoring plan
- Relay and up-date the monitoring plan in the plant
- Make Layered Process Audit (LPA) on workstations identified as sensitive in the flow
Contributing to the progress of the ENG Team
- Enable the link between Plant and Central ENG Team.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited university (other Engineering degrees, in combination with relevant experience may be considered)
- Well versed in Microsoft applications
- Previous Manufacturing and/or Quality experience within a vehicle/Component assembly plant
Competencies
- Ability to perform data analysis in order to identify top issues, summarize trends, distinctions, and effectiveness of corrective actions and continuous improvement activities
- Effective presentation/public speaking skills (comfortable presenting to all levels of the organization from hourly employees to senior management)
- Ability to collect and synthesize data into information and communicate clearly to all levels of management
- Experience with problem solving tools
- Ability to work independently and in proactive way
Preferred Requirements
- Previous experience in resolving Off Road Vehicles (e.g. Construction Equipment or Agriculture) issues including root cause, repairs, etc...
- Previous Manufacturing and/or Quality experience within a vehicle/Component assembly plant
- Advanced Degree
- Reactive Green Belt / Black Belt
- ISO 9001 requirements knowledge
- IA Tools knowledge and familiarity
