Gorgonzola hosts the Navigations Air Systems (NAS) domain, which focuses on avionics, navigation, and radar systems for civil air traffic and technologies supporting civilian and military pilots, ATC controllers, and technicians of various airlines, air traffic control agencies, and Air Forces worldwide. Italy is the Group’s Competence Center for the design, production, and delivery of Navigation Aids products and for non-Radar Surveillance Products.
We are currently looking for a Project Network Engineer to join Thales Land and Air Systems in its NAS Center of Competence in Gorgonzola (near Milan).
Responsibilities Main work tasks are:
Planning and commissioning of network-based infrastructures
Collaborate with Network Architects in the definition of our complex distributed systems
Support the configuration of network infrastructure and Thales products responsible for remote control systems
Support the investigation of interoperability issues due to networking in cooperation with the designated project manager, customer service, and other resources (Product Manager, Quality, local partners, etc.)
Further important work tasks are:
Providing technical support during tender/contract negotiations with customers
Providing detailed technical tender comments in assistance with designated resources such as Product Managers
Performing Site Surveys including Reports for domestic and export projects in the field of terrestrial navigation systems
Selecting the needed Navaid system configuration and preparing recommendations for other non-Navaid systems
Providing technical specifications to known suppliers; requesting quotes and supporting the selection of new suppliers in cooperation with the procurement department
Providing project-specific design documentation within the frame of a service file
Providing the as-built documentation according to customer/site requirements
Clarifying supporting technical on-site issues in cooperation with the designated project manager, customer service, and other resources
Required Skills and Experience: The candidate must have a wide general spectrum of understanding within many technical fields starting with simple civil works and ending with full engineering capabilities.
Degree in technical engineering, focusing on information technology/telecommunication and/or in combination with electrical engineering/RF propagation
4 years minimum experience in the field of project/system engineering (domestic/export)
Extensive understanding of network standards (VLAN, Routing, VPNs, DNS, DSL, etc.) (Cisco CCNP certificate is a plus)
Experience in configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TSL, SSH, FTP)
Extensive Linux know-how and knowledge of Linux desktop and Server Operating Systems
Programming experience and familiarity with scripting languages for system automation (e.g. Python, Perl, Bash)
Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools
Fast understanding of various regulations/standards such as EN, ICAO, or specific local standards
Knowledge of specifically designed remote control functions using copper, fiber optic, radio, GSM/LTE/xG, SAT as media
Fast understanding/knowledge built-up in the technical field of Airspace Mobility Solutions
Languages (besides Italian): English, technically firm and fluent in writing and speech
Additional languages such as German, Spanish, or French to a technical firm level
Willingness to travel abroad to any worldwide destination, even to critical regions (countries where travel restrictions apply and those requiring specific rules of action are controlled by THALES Corporate Security).
