School-Supported Self-Taught Language A TutorsThe College is looking for collaborators with IB DP teaching experience to fill the positions of School-Supported Self-Taught Language A tutors.The United World College of the Adriatic is an international school located in Duino, Italy, where 16-to-19-year-old students from over 80 countries engage in the study of the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme. Exploring the cultural and linguistic wealth of the languages represented in the College is one of the key elements of the UWC Adriatic educational experience.Many candidates study literature in their best language/mother tongue and are offered a course of instruction in the Literature in Translation part of the syllabus, as well as assistance in acquiring text-analysis, commentary, and comparative essay-writing skills. To provide stronger support for the candidates, the College is looking for virtual Language A: Literature tutors.We are looking for independent collaborators with IB DP teaching experience to fill the positions of School-Supported Self-Taught Language A tutors in the following languages: Albanian, Amharic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Marathi, Modern Greek, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Siswati, Slovak, Turkish, and Ukrainian.Position Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe online Language A tutor is responsible for providing the candidate(s) with support, including the following:Helping the student select a balanced booklist that meets all the IB requirements regarding the Prescribed List of Authors or compile an individual list in case of a Special Request Language A.Sharing relevant text-related materials (for instance, notes, readings, critical articles, writing samples, interviews, etc.) with the candidate(s).Providing professional advice on the preparation for and delivery of the Individual Oral.Providing professional advice on writing Paper 1 text analysis and Paper 2 Essay; facilitating the development of text analysis, oral and written commentary, as well as essay writing skills.Providing feedback on a Paper 1 analysis, a Paper 2 Literature essay, a voluntary mock oral examination, and the Trial Examination papers.Providing grades for these assessments and predicted grades to the SSST coordinator.Qualifications and RequirementsPreferably a teaching qualification and experience in IBDP Language A: Literature teaching.Excellent oral and writing skills in the language of instruction.Experience in working with youth aged 16-19 years old, coming from diverse backgrounds and environments.Computer with internet access to meet students virtually.The Language A: Literature tutor will be offered a self-employed contract to include 30 hours of direct online contact teaching of the candidate or group of candidates (normally 2 to 3 people). The exact hour distribution is at the tutor’s discretion, but the recommended spread would be around 10 hours in the first year, when the candidates have more structured and regular school support through the Literature in Translation study classes, and around 20 hours in the second year, prior to the IB examinations and the Trial examinations. Tutoring can begin as soon as the applicants have been identified and can continue till May 2024. Compensation of 50 euros per hour (taxable) is offered.
