System Administrator:Server and client administration, scientific applications, and user support

EU citizens only

Place of delivery: Ispra, Italy

Delivery mode: Onsite

The requested profile is a system and desktop/application administrator for the management of the Client's corporate infrastructure for

Virtual and physical systems configuration

Storage and backup services configuration for servers and clients

IT support for end-user computing and services


DESCRIPTION OF THE TASKS

The selected person will need to be able to support both daily operations for relevant services and contribute to the execution of new projects.

Main activities will be:

Administration of Linux-based client/server platforms (virtual and physical)

Administration of Windows-based client/server platforms

Installation and configuration of client/server software and administration of laboratories IT infrastructure and end-user environment

Management of users and computers based on Active Directory infrastructure

Management of end-user VDI platform including resource configuration and proper setup for Corporate level services like CI/CD and BDAP platforms (JRC BigData)

Handling of backups and restore operations in support of the end-user environment

1st /2nd level support

Computer hardware management: analysis and resolution, problem definition

Maintenance of a detailed HW/SW inventory

End User applications installation and configuration support

Interaction and collaboration with upstream support teams

Administration of DG-specific infrastructures, systems,and services, such as file and print services, RDSservice, DG-specific systems and software and hostedapplications

2nd level support

Installation and configuration of system componentsand server software, including patch management

Operating and monitoring of infrastructure, systems,servers

Configuration management tasks & procedures

Incident management, Change enablement, Requestfulfillment, Problem management: definition, analysis,and resolution

Preliminary diagnosis of software and hardwareproblems, also in coordination with the central ITdepartments

Advise in areas such as capacity management,contingency planning, IT service continuitymanagement, automation of repetitive tasks, security

Coordinate with hosting services

Coordinate with database management teams

Scripting & configurations in the context of systems &infrastructure

Handling backups and restoring operations of systems& infrastructure

Participate in defining and documenting the configurationof systems & infrastructure

Participate in defining and documenting operationalprocedures

Participate in architectural design/reviews

Draft technical content for the knowledge base for use ofupstream support teams

Evaluation and implementation of security standards

Security administration and monitoring, in adherence tocentral security service (complemented by local ruleswhere needed); under supervision of the LISO (LocalInformation Security Officer)

Participation in coordination and project meetings.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

The minimum educational qualification is the level of education corresponding to Level 6 of the European Qualification Framework which typically corresponds to a bachelor’s degree of 3 years.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Very good experience in the following fields is required:

System administration of Linux platforms (Ubuntu, RedHat Enterprise Linux, and various Linux flavors of RedHat OSes) and installation and configuration of desktop applications

Support for users of scientific information systems

Support for users on specific scientific software like GIS tools, ARCGIS, ENVI/IDL, GRASS

Support for solution of hardware and software problems

The following practical experience is desirable:

System administration of Windows client platforms (Legacy Windows OS, Windows 10/11) and System administration of Windows server platforms (Legacy Windows server OS, Windows server 2016/2019/2022)

Active Directory concepts

Support for laboratories and end-user IT environment

Support for backup/restore operations

Management/configuration of active directory-related services like WSUS, SCCM, MDT

Ability to analyze users’ needs, translate them into precise requirements and propose ad hoc or Corporate Solutions

Production of technical documentation and training manuals for management and users
